Mykonos plans property leases to house up to 125 public-service workers
The municipal council has approved the need for accommodation leases. Its supporting proposal envisages buildings for 15–25 people each, with tender terms still to follow.
Need for property leases approved
The September council decision
Mykonos Municipal Council unanimously approved the need to lease properties for eligible workers at its meeting on 4 September. Decision 152/2026, posted in the municipal archive on 8 September, begins a process to secure accommodation through leases taken by the municipality.
The supporting proposal links the measure to difficulties finding housing for staff serving on the island and to sustaining health, education and public-safety services. It envisages accommodation for up to 125 eligible people in total.
The proposed accommodation
The proposal describes accommodation within the municipality capable of housing 15–25 people per property. It calls for legally existing buildings, under a building permit or regularisation, connected to electricity and the municipal water network and without a need for complete reconstruction.
The figure of 125 refers to people the proposal aims to accommodate. It is not an announcement of 125 homes. The decision does not identify buildings already leased or set the final rental cost.
The workers covered by the framework
The decision refers to Article 529 of Law 5314/2026. The statutory passage reproduced in its supporting proposal lists municipal employees, paramedical and nursing staff in public health facilities and ambulance-service personnel, uniformed services and specified categories of teachers.
The council has approved the need for leases at this stage. The document does not open applications for workers or allocate accommodation to named individuals. Conditions and implementation require the corresponding subsequent records.
Tender terms come next
According to the supporting proposal, the Municipal Committee will prepare the tender terms, with the auction conducted before the municipality’s designated committee. That stage should make the property requirements and lease conditions more specific.
For staff needing somewhere to live, the meaningful next records will be the tender, the leases ultimately concluded and the date accommodation can become available. The 4 September decision documents the start of that process without yet setting a move-in date.
