Mykonos airport: August traffic rises 7.5%, led by international routes

What happened

Mykonos airport handled 426,229 passengers in August 2026, compared with 396,604 a year earlier, according to Fraport Greece’s provisional traffic table. The published increase is 7.5%. International traffic reached 336,300, up 8.3%, while domestic traffic rose 4.4% to 89,929.

Subtracting the 2025 totals from the 2026 figures gives an additional 29,625 passenger movements in August. International routes account for 25,861 of that increase, or about 87%; domestic routes contribute 3,764. This calculation makes the source of the growth clearer than the overall percentage alone.

Why it matters

The eight-month comparison points in the same direction. From January to August, Mykonos recorded 1,313,175 passengers against 1,231,739 in 2025, an increase of 6.6%. International traffic grew 8.6% to 946,352; domestic traffic increased 1.7% to 366,823. Of the additional 81,436 passenger movements, 75,221 — about 92% — came from the international side.

August was therefore growing faster than the cumulative period, without reversing its international-led pattern. As a benchmark, the operator’s 14-airport network recorded increases of 5.1% in August and 5.3% over January–August. Those are network comparisons, not measures of the whole Greek tourism market.

Planning relevance

These figures describe airport traffic, not unique holidaymakers. They do not measure ferry passengers, hotel occupancy, visitor spending or how revenue is distributed on the island. The reporting period ends on 31 August, so it cannot establish September demand or the final outcome of the 2026 season.
